Our Story

The Nestlings Kindergarten wasn't created from a business plan.

It was born from a simple question that every parent asks themselves: "Is there somewhere my child can truly belong?"

Long before we ever owned an education setting, we were just mum and dad, searching for somewhere our own children would be understood, celebrated and loved for exactly who they were.

We weren't looking for the fanciest building or the longest list of achievements. We were looking for somewhere childhood was treasured. Somewhere muddy puddles, climbing trees and endless questions were welcomed. Somewhere children could laugh loudly, explore freely, make mistakes without fear and come home every day with stories rather than worksheets.

When we discovered Clophill Preschool, it felt like we'd finally found it.

But our passion for education started long before we became parents.

Sophie's own childhood was shaped by ADHD. She found learning easy, but school incredibly difficult. The constant social demands, expectations to sit still, and pressure to fit a mould that simply wasn't designed for her often left her feeling misunderstood. Yet away from the classroom, she flourished. She left school determined to become the kind of teacher she had always needed herself.

Alex's experience was different, but no less significant. His greatest passions were engineering, designing, building and making things. He was endlessly curious about how the world worked, yet those talents rarely fitted neatly into traditional education. Today, those same skills have become the foundation of everything we create.

Together, those experiences shaped the way we see children.

We believe every child arrives with unique strengths. Some children learn by listening. Others by moving. Some need time before they speak. Others need space before they can concentrate. None of those children are "behind". They are simply wonderfully different.

After qualifying as a teacher, working across mainstream schools, specialist SEND provisions and training as a Forest School Leader, Sophie became increasingly convinced that education shouldn't ask children to change who they are.

Instead, education should change to meet the needs of the child.

That belief became the foundation of The Fledglings—our outdoor primary provision where children learn through relationships, real experiences, nature and adventure.

Then, in 2024, something extraordinary happened.

The preschool that had first inspired our own family became available to buy.

The place where our journey had begun could now become the place where countless other families would begin theirs.

It felt less like buying a preschool and more like coming home.

Today, Clophill Preschool has grown into The Nestlings Kindergarten.

The name may have changed, but the heart behind it never will.

Every child who walks through our gates deserves to feel safe. To feel known. To be respected. To be listened to. To have adults who genuinely delight in who they are today—not who they might become one day.

Because childhood isn't simply preparation for life.

Childhood is life.

These years are precious, fleeting and impossible to repeat.

That's why every den built, every muddy boot, every story shared around a fire, every bug discovered beneath a log and every moment of wonder matters to us.

We know parents are trusting us with the most important people in their world.

It is a privilege we will never take for granted.

Welcome to The Nestlings Kindergarten.

We can't wait to become part of your family's story.
